Opera Brings Geolocation to the Web

There always seems to be another technological breakthrough that makes it easier for other people to keep track of your whereabouts. There are apps on most of the social networking sites that keep you updated on what your friends are doing and where they are. Now all you have to do is access Opera's browser for people to know where you are.
Opera announced Thursday their partnership with Skyhook Wireless to bring their geolocation technology to its internet browser. With the newest version of the Opera browser, you'll be able to access the location platform so you can share your location with websites that support it. Skyhook's Wi-Fi Positioning System lets any computer or mobile phone use it if it has a wireless adapter.
You don't need a GPS or triangulation device because Opera released the W3C Geolocation Application Programming Interface (API). This will allow web developers to implement the Skyhook technology to their site so it can work with Opera users.
The pros and cons (depending on how you look at it) will be that you can easily find stores or other services near you but on the flip side the websites you visit will know where you are. Every time you go to a site with Skyhook's location platform, Opera will ask permission to send your location to them.
